A Very Blue Year

January 18, 2018

In September 2017, Connect Charter School Leadership was notified that the school had won the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award.  They also sent the official logo and a short list of things we could do to celebrate.

Most schools had an assembly, one had a blue fireworks display, another a school parade.  We decided to celebrate for the whole year.

For November, we booked a Blues Brothers Road Show band from Denver.  We bought over 300 Blues Brothers hats and glasses.  We booked the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center Ballroom for the party and practiced Blues Brothers Songs and our concert moves.   The students enjoyed the concert and many danced with the very entertaining band and the two singers Jake and Elwood.  We had a short ceremony presenting the Official Blue Ribbon Plaque and Flag to the school.  It was a great time.  Students received a party bag and kept their hats and sunglasses for keepsakes.

The Band stayed to play a second set with friends, parents, and alumni.  This was a wonderful celebration of the award and our 25th Anniversary.

In December, Blue Bell Ice Cream out of Brenham, Texas scheduled an ice cream party for the students and school.  The company honors Blue Ribbon schools throughout the nation and have for years.  The students enjoyed the ice cream and we sprayed them with confetti at the end of the ceremony.

For the holiday season, we bought a blue tinsel tree and decorated the Arts Center  in blue for our big holiday dance.

In January, we purchased a commercial size cotton candy machine.  The students will make blue cotton candy during their connections class.

We also received an official letter from Congress honoring our school’s achievement.  We sent the letter to parents and posted it on Facebook.

In February, we will dedicate a metal sculpture of our wolf mascot.  We will have a dedication ceremony and attach a blue ribbon to the sculpture.

We will end the year with a display of the Plaque and National Blue Ribbon flag in a special sendoff for our graduating 8th grade class.

Yes, it has been a year we will not forget!
